The Director of Education will be responsible for overseeing the
four pillars of the association’s education priorities, including:
Professional Development, Career Services, Career Paths and Youth
Engagement. Within these four pillars, the Director will prioritize
strategy development as well as goal setting in planning for
success and alignment with the Education Team and association.
Developing the annual SEMA Show and PRI tradeshow education
priorities is a primary objective for the position as well as
leading the administering of the multi-million-dollar SEMA Memorial
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY Develop strategy and
priorities for the SEMA Education Department as well as direct a
four-person team and the daily activities of education and career
services for the association’s members.
Research and evaluate new opportunities to deliver professional
development to SEMA members year-round.
Ensure that individual member engagement a top priority when
delivering value to members.
Understanding the changing landscape of education and as well as
the learning platforms and technologies that are most appropriate
to deliver high-quality programming.
Create, develop, implement and evaluate educational offerings
(e.g., online resources, webinars and independent regional
conferences) for the membership and ensure utilization and
engagement over the long-term.
In the areas of Career Paths and Youth Engagement, ensure
consistency with the association’s strategic priorities through
long-range, multi-year planning around impactful programs with
Manage SEMA’s efforts around career services programming and,
specifically, the online Career Center and HR Hub.
Lead the planning and execution of the educational efforts at
the SEMA and PRI trade shows.
Collaborate with key stakeholders (internal and external) to
identify priority topics, seminars and tracks that will be of
significant interest to the annual events.
Identify, recruit and contract with educational speakers to
assist with the association’s educational programs.
Serve as staff lead in overseeing strategic tradeshow
partnerships with HROT, SCRS, TIA, AETC and ICAR for purposes of
extending and offering additional professional development to SEMA
In partnership with the association’s internal stakeholders and
support teams, ensure a high-quality presence and execution of
education-related goals at the tradeshows.
Oversee the strategic direction of SEMA’s student programs and
Define, establish and maintain relationships with university,
college and vocational institutions as well as foundations and
other organizations with similar strategic priorities.
Ensure that the student program continues to thrive at both the
tradeshows as well as throughout the year with a strong and equal
focus on engagement and industry hiring of young professionals.
Lead and implement the recommendations of the SEMA Memorial
Scholarship Fund Committee.
Administer the annual SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund application
and award process.
Creates and oversees multi-year goal setting and planning
efforts around education and career services.
Establish the Education Department as a trusted internal
resource to support the association’s programs and services in the
area of education and training delivery.
Conduct regular reporting on department achievements, challenges
Prepare and administer budgets for the Education Department.
When directed by management, perform other assignments and
duties as required.
RELATIONSHIPS Reports to Vice President, Councils and
Supervises department’s Senior Manager of Professional
Development, Youth Engagement Manager and Student Programs
Interfaces with all levels of staff as well as with Association
members, industry representatives, schools administrators and
vendors providing educational and career information.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Bachelor’s degree in
Education or equivalent related experience
At least 5 years of experience in training and professional
Ability to partner with other team members and service
departments for the purpose of aligning skillsets, job
responsibilities and priorities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with
Ability to abandon what is not working and test ideas and
concepts through innovation, beta testing and curiosity.
Understanding of standard budget accounting procedures.
Prefer experience and understanding in the following areas:
Theories of learning and curriculum development
Delivery models for in-persona and virtual professional
development and training
General career services
Knowledge of PC based computer systems and software, such as
Microsoft Office Suite.
